The winner of the 2020 CANIE COVID-19 International Support Award is Shopify. Headquartered in Ottawa, Shopify powers over one million businesses in more than 175 countries, and is trusted by brands such as Allbirds, Gymshark, Heinz, Staples, and many more. In response to the current pandemic, Shopify launched the Go Digital Canada initiative in partnership with the Government of Canada to help to bring thousands of small businesses online and support them as they adapt to a digital economy during these trying times. Shopify’s Go Digital Canada central resource hub made it easy for Canadian entrepreneurs to get online quickly with an extended 90-day trial, and business owners were able to access a suite of free resources and tools to build their store including step-by-step guidance with Shopify Compass, and gain foundational knowledge in key topics such as inventory management and online marketing. Through Go Digital Canada, Canadian small businesses across the country were able to launch their online stores and grow their business with confidence while transforming their operations into an online format. Shopify has demonstrated its commitment to assisting businesses in navigating the digital economy and in overcoming unprecedented challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
