Awards & Grants Officer

Job title: Awards & Grants Officer
Location: Head Office in Ottawa/Remote
FT/PT: 6 Month Contract (with opportunity for extension) Full Time 
Direct Reports: 0
Reports to: CEO
Travel Requirements: 1 month per year when doing in-person awards. 0% during COVID-19

About the role: The Awards & Grants Officer is responsible for the vision, coordination, management, communication and execution of the CANIE Awards, and Microgrants that are awarded through the Innovators & Entrepreneurs Foundation. With a passion for supporting entrepreneurs, they liaise with applicants, sponsors and community partners to award funds to the most talented entrepreneurs in Canada.

Responsibilities

CANIE Awards – Innovators & Entrepreneurs Foundation

  • Provide strategic oversight, coordination, and management of all aspects of assigned awards and funding programs.
  • Coordinate all logistics of awards ceremonies including overall vision, venue logistics, participant logistics, management of support personnel and the execution of all ceremony details on the day of.  
  • Confirm, communicate, and arrange logistics with key speakers for awards ceremonies.
  • Write scripts for award ceremony hosts.
  • Develop all communications and marketing elements of the awards programs including copy writing and graphics. Partner with communications personnel as needed.
  • Key point of contact for all award applicants; responding to applicant questions and providing updates on application details and process.
  • Establish and coordinate adjudication committees that select award winners.
  • Receive and process all program applications.
  • Partner with CEO to allocate and track program budget.
  • Organizing all board materials for the IEF Board of Directors.

Microgrants – Innovators and & Entrepreneurs Foundation

  • Grow and manage microgrant program by developing overall strategy and implementing actionable steps to achieve strategy goals.  
  • Develop communications plan to promote the program to entrepreneurs and ensure that the steps to apply are clearly conveyed to applicants. Partner with communications personnel, and consultants as needed.
  • Coordinate all elements of the program to receive applications, process applications and award grants.
  • Establish and coordinate adjudication committees that select award winners.
  • Partner with CEO to allocate and track program budget.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent organization, multi-tasking and coordination skills to effectively manage many different moving parts of a program.
  • Strategic mindset with ability to understand the whole picture of a program along with all the details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills to maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Event coordination and management skills (both for in-person and online events)
  • Intermediate computer skills and ability to use social media tools, Google suite, Zoom and Slack
  • Deep understanding of how to operationalize strategic directives.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurial best practices, small businesses, marketing, data management and strategies to support entrepreneurs.
  • High competence level in clear and concise verbal and written communication, including an excellent skillset in writing and editing of reports.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude, with ability to work as a team player.
  • Willingness to be flexible and versatile in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
  • The ability to write and speak French is an asset.

  • Independently manage programs performing varied tasks.
  • Decision making and ability to obtain consensus on complex issues.
  • Communicate verbally and in written format with diverse groups.
